Things to know about casting:
Casting is a collective process by the Elevation Nutcracker choreographers, the director, and the producer.
Factors they consider include:
Choreographic specifications, such as the number of dancers needed
Height
Technical proficiency and stamina
Ability to retain and execute choreography
Maturity required to perform certain roles
Class attendance and punctuality
Every role provides an opportunity for the student to:
Master old and new choreography
Learn to work with others
Appreciate and respect the art form, hard work, and importance of detail
Continue to hone individual technique
It is possible that students may be cast in the same role more than once due to the factors listed above. Every role is important and serves a distinct purpose in the final theatrical product. If a dancer is not cast in a particular role, this does not mean they are not a strong dancer and don’t have a chance the following year. Many things go into putting on a professional production, and the artistic team does its best to have as many students involved as possible. As a reminder casting is non-negotiable.
